Response of olfactory bulb neurons to x-rays as a function of nasal oxygen concentration.
نویسنده
چکیده
Responses of single olfactory bulb neurons in rats to x-irradiation of the head were examined during the perfusion through the nasal cavities of gas containing various concentrations of oxygen. Response to x-ray was unchanged with oxygen concentrations of from 100 percent down to about 5 percent. Progressively larger response decrements were observed with oxygen concentrations of 2 percent and less.

P11: Assess the Electrophysiological Activity of Olfactory Bulb in the Animal Model of PTSD and its Relationship with Neuroinflammation in the Olfactory Bulb
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event - either experiencing it or witnessing it. In addition to the relationship between PTSD and neuroinflammation, research indicates that olfactory bulb are effective in anxiety disorders. The aim of this study was to assess the electrophysiological activity of olfactory bulb in the animal mod...
متن کاملNasal toxicity, carcinogenicity, and olfactory uptake of metals.
Occupational exposures to inhalation of certain metal dusts or aerosols can cause loss of olfactory acuity, atrophy of the nasal mucosa, mucosal ulcers, perforated nasal septum, or sinonasal cancer. Anosmia and hyposmia have been observed in workers exposed to Ni- or Cd-containing dusts in alkaline battery factories, nickel refineries, and cadmium industries. Ulcers of the nasal mucosa and perf...
متن کاملRecording Temperature-induced Neuronal Activity through Monitoring Calcium Changes in the Olfactory Bulb of Xenopus laevis
The olfactory system, specialized in the detection, integration and processing of chemical molecules is likely the most thoroughly studied sensory system. However, there is piling evidence that olfaction is not solely limited to chemical sensitivity, but also includes temperature sensitivity. Premetamorphic Xenopus laevis are translucent animals, with protruding nasal cavities deprived of the c...
متن کاملPrion Shedding from Olfactory Neurons into Nasal Secretions
This study investigated the role of prion infection of the olfactory mucosa in the shedding of prion infectivity into nasal secretions. Prion infection with the HY strain of the transmissible mink encephalopathy (TME) agent resulted in a prominent infection of the olfactory bulb and the olfactory sensory epithelium including the olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) and vomeronasal receptor neurons...
متن کاملThe Effects of Soy Milk on Histomorphometric Changes of Olfactory Bulb in Neonatal Ovariectomized RatsSprague- Dawley strain
Background & Objective: Soy milk contains isoflavones that comprises the phytoestrogens families. They have structural similarities with mammalian estrogen. This study was done to investigate the effects of soy milk on histomorphometric changes of olfactory bulb in neonatal ovariectomized rats. Materials & Methods: Thirty female rats Sprague- Dawley strain (one-day old) were kept in a standa...
